ESAC lead the project team for overall system design and implementation. While primary focus was interface protection design, Hydro approvals and connection agreement; ESAC strived for the best solution delivered on time and budget. This application is very unique in it's outer-operation with the Hydro grid.



Using Schweitzer protection relays with remote I/O and "mirrored" bits, a distributed protection and control scheme was applied. This arrangement lets each wind turbine's protection address both internal and external fault clearing while providing backup schemes. Dial in access for uploading of trip event/oscillographic data to analyze and remote operations support.

The wind turbine's geographical location to Hydro's grid resulted in a complex protection schemes. ESAC provided electrical system studies (short circuit and relay coordination), detailed protection design, relay panel supply, installation, commissioning and operations support. The application design ensures no Hydro grid interface deficiencies and optimizes productivity.

At present, electricity generated by wind power in North America is the main form of natural energy. Wind power generation does not pollute the atmosphere or emit CO2. ESAC is proud to take part in providing environment friendly solutions for power generation.
