ESAC has worked with Renfrew Generation since 1992 and continues to provide support services for their Electrical SCADA System.  While continuing to expand the systems functionality, ESAC has strived to provide the best possible system to monitor and control their hydroelectric power generation stations.  ESAC has been able to accommodate Renfrew Generation's very specific needs, with tailored standard software and hardware.

Using Intellution FIX32, operators at Renfrew Generation can access details for all relevant devices in the system.  The system is configured with the ESAC Demand Forecast block which allows them to instantly view the demand based on a 60 minute basis.  Demand is trended over time to compare with data in reports and verify the performance of their system. At Renfrew Generation, output varies significantly depending the on or off-peak status.  During peak times, output can approach the capacity of the system, while during off-peak times output drops.  Management found that the ESAC Time-of-Use Reporting system supplied them with the numbers they needed to precisely develop production schedules.  The ability to choose which days were off-peak allowed management to customize their system specifically to their local and cultural trends. Recently reporting has been upgraded to the real-time format.  Using the various generator automatic control modes of time, demand and river level (flow); the system permits optimization for the best operating value. Serious incidents can occur at any time.  At Renfrew Generation, even during hours when staff is limited such events must be handled immediately.  ESAC has configured a paging system that will automatically inform the desired personnel of the event on a standard pager.
